Nicholas II palace lead crystal wine goblets, the Imperial Porcelain and Glass Factory 1910s, engraver Lavr Orlovsky, decorated in the 18th century style: the front engraved with crowned double headed Imperial eagle, the reverse - with the monogram "H A II" within a crowned medallion surrounded with military trophies. Height 6 in. (15,4 cm). Excellent condition.
The monogram 'H A II' stands for 'Nicholas II Alexandrovich' or for 'Nicholas II and Alexandra'. This question is still debated. It is believed that the service was commissioned in the early 1910s for the Romanov dynasty tercentennial celebration in 1913, and later on, was used as a banqueting service at the Tsarskoe Selo and the Winter Palaces. Most of the known glasses of this type are with the eagle, painted black, and gilded monogram. During the World War I glasses with no gilt were produced. From the point of rarity clear glasses are more rare.
Each glass comes with a copy of museum certificate of authenticity. Please inquire for details.
Several glasses are available.
$3,500.00 a piece
Some of the glasses may have a date scratched under base: 1917 or 1918. Clearly, these glasses were not produced after the 1917 February Revolution. Most likely the dates were scratched during inventorying of the contents of the Imperial palaces.
