Very Fine and Extremely Rare Imperial Presentation Pendant (Jeton) 1896.
Made for the Coronation of Nicholas II.
The front is covered with superb translucent enamel of deep royal blue color and mounted with diamond-set gold Russian Imperial crown. The rim is applied with chased green gold laurel wreath. The pendant is unmarked. Diameter 7/8 in. (2,2 cm).
The crown is set with 35 rose-cut diamonds.
The back with matt finish enameled with the following inscription in Russian:

P.A. KOSHITZ
(name of the recipient)
A three color gold (yellow, green, and rose) multi-piece construction.
The pendant was given to Paul Alexeivich Koshitz, a prominent opera singer of the period who performed in the Bolshoi theater at the time of the Coronation.
Koshitz was born in 1863, studied in Moscow and Milan (Italy), performed at Opera Houses in Italy, Greece and America. From 1893 till 1903 soloist in the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow, lost his voice and committed suicide in 1904. He was buried at the Vagankovskoe cemetery in Moscow.
