Antique Faberge moss agate brooch

The moss agate plaque has tree-form inclusions resembling a forest.

The gold, ribbon tied, reeded frame (typical for Wigstrom work) is in Neo-classical taste of Louis XVI period. The silver ribbons are set with tiny rose-cut diamonds.

Objects in Louis XVI style were a specialty of Wigstrom's workshop.

Moss agate was used extensively by French jewelers in the 18th century. Being one of the favorite stones of Carl Faberge, moss agate jewelry and boxes were primarily produced at Wigstrom and Holmstom workshops in St Petersburg.
