Large Imperial Presentation gilded silver and shaded cloisonne enamel kovsh by Lubavin, St. Petersburg.
This kovsh was commissioned by the Imperial Court in connection with the St. Petersburg's bicentennial celebration. Almost certainly, it was personally given by emperor Nicholas II to an important guest during the festivities.

of traditional boat shape with hook handle, richly gilded, enameled with elaborate scrolling foliage in 17th century taste.
Enamel is in excellent condition. Lightly worn gilding of the interior.
Finial in the form of a finely detailed Imperial double headed eagle on a cannon ball.

The handle is applied with silver-gilt coat-of-arms of the city of St. Petersburg.
This is a rare and very fine example of St. Petersburg cloisonne enamel work. Most cloisonne objects were produced in Moscow at that time.
Struck with 88 standard (916 silver), assayer's initials and maker's name in full 'LUBAVIN'.
