Grand Duchess Elizabeth presentation porcelain Easter egg, decorated with gilded inscription ELIZABETH in old Russian style under Imperial crown. Height 3 in. (7,5 cm). Imperial Porcelain Factory circa 1914. Few short scratches on the crown and a tiny shallow chip between the crown and the inscription. Very Rare.

The Grand Duchess Elizabeth (1864-1918), was sister of empress Alexandra Feodorovna and wife of the Grand Duke Sergei (1857-1905), brother of Alexander III and the Commander in Chief of Moscow. After assassination of her husband in 1905, the Grand Duchess devoted herself to charity and religion by  founding a convent in Moscow. In April 1918, Elizabeth has been arrested and sent to the city of Alapaevsk (Ural), where she was executed together with five other members of the Romanov family and thrown into a mine.  During the Civil war, when the region was under control of the White Army, her remains were excavated end taken to Jerusalem. Russian church canonize her in 1981.
