The photograph is signed in black ink by the empress : Maria 1909

Although the photograph is dated '1909', it is a later print of the 1881 original by court photographer Pasetti. Young Empress Maria is wearing a court dress with the sash of the Order of St. Catherine, diamond and pearl tiara, and necklaces.
