Finely carved nephrite kovsh by FABERGE, made in St. Petersburg around 1890 by chief-workmaster Michael Perkhin (1860-1903).

Elegantly shaped kovsh with curved handle.

 

The gold handle has an oval opening which serves as a thumb spot.  The opening was designed to show the underlying nephrite.

     

Lapis lazuli ball shaped finial.

             

   

         

The gold handle is covered with white opaque cloisonne enamel. The flat gold wires are engraved with zig zag and doted patterns.

   

   

There is a small repaired chip to white enamel near the thumb spot.

Marked with 56 zolotniks standard (14K - 583 gold), workmaster's initials Cyrillic 'MP', FABERGE and scratched inventory number 47184.
