Exceedingly rare Imperial Presentation Stick Pin by Faberge, St. Petersburg, 1908-1917, set with four oval cabochon rubies and mounted with a highly polished lemon gold medallion engraved with profile busts of Nicholas II and Empress Alexandra Feodorovna. The busts are covered with translucent reddish orange enamel. Length 3 3/8 in. (8,5 cm). Size of the shield 13/16 x 6/8 in. (2 x 1,9 cm). Excellent condition.

It is likely that the pin was designed for a wedding anniversary of the Imperial couple.

A highly unusual piece. Imperial presentation jewelry with portraits is very rare. The technique of enameling engraved portraits is also very uncommon.

Marked on the pin with 56 zolotniks (14K gold) and initials of  head workmaster Albert Holmstrom (AH).

   

The pin comes with a certificate of authenticity obtained by previous owner from Valentin Skurlov (St. Petersburg), Christie's Faberge research consultant, expert of the Russian Ministry of Culture and author of numerous books on antique jewelry and Faberge including "History of the Faberge Firm" (1992), "Faberge and Russian Court Jewelers" (1992), "Faberge and St. Petersburg Jewelers" (1997), "Hallmarking of Russian Gold and Silver Objects in the late 19th - early 20th century" (2001), "Suppliers of the Imperial Court" (2002), "St Petersburg of Carl Faberge" (2004).
