An Extremely Rare and Important Antique Russian Imperial Seal Box c. 1890

The cover of the gilded bronze round box is applied with a coat of arms of the Russian Empire. Such boxes contained a wax seal and were attached to official State documents.

A shield with a double-headed Russian Imperial eagle is surmounted with an ancient helmet of Saint Grand Duke Alexander Nevsky. The double-headed eagle is surrounded with the chain of the St. Andrew Order. The shield is placed in the center of a royal ermine mantle, which is topped with Russian Imperial crown. The inscription in stylized Old Slavonic script below the crown reads, "GOD WITH US."

A wax seal with embossed Russian Imperial armorial would be placed inside the box and attached to a document with cords through the openings in the seal box.
