Porcelain dessert plate from the Banqueting service of the Imperial Order of Saint George. The service was commissioned by Catherine II at the Gardner Factory in the 18th century. This plate is a replacement piece made at the Imperial Porcelain Factory in 1895 (green cipher mark), during the reign of Nicholas II. The order of  St. George, which is the most prestigious  Russian military award, was instituted by Catherine II in 1769. Once a year, on the St. George day, cavaliers of the Order were invited by czar to a banquet, held at a palace, and the service was used only on such occasions.

Border is painted with St. George badge and ribbon, in the center - breast star of the Order.

Diameter 7 1/16 in. (18 cm). Mint condition.
