Photographs of czarevich Alexei are very rare in general, and photographs of him together with his parents are especially rare. This particular shot is an unusual parade image: he photographer took the picture from a very close distance.

The Imperial family is standing in front of the entrance to the Tsarskoe Selo Palace flanked by two saluting cossacks of His Majesty's Own Convoy.

The entrance to the palace is decorated by monumental statues of atlantians.
